ACTION ALERT

Mayor Bloomberg VETOES Food Stamps Access Bills

Please call, fax and/or write to your City Council Member and urge him or her to OVERRIDE the vetoes.

"The New York City Coalition Against Hunger (NYCCAH), an umbrella group for the city’s more than 1,200 soup kitchens and food pantries, sharply criticized Mayor Michael Bloomberg today for vetoing three bills, recently passed by the City Council, that would ease access to federally-funded food stamp benefits for working families and other hard-to-reach populations." UPDATE

City Council Restores $670,000 EFAP Funding and Adds an Additional $1.3 MILLION for Hunger and Nutrition Programs!

"The new city budget agreement between the City Council and Mayor Bloomberg provides $2 million more for the Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP), the City’s main source of funding for food pantries and soup kitchens, than the budget originally proposed by Mayor Bloomberg.  Not only did the City Council oppose the Mayor’s plan to cut $670,000 from EFAP, they added an additional $1.3 million in funding, bringing the total money added to $2 million."
